Trackmania is an arcade style racing game, meaning that it does not behave like a regular race car. This page will help guide you through important Trackmania skills to improve your track times! Information on this website is from the following youtube video, 5 Most Essential Trackmania Skills To Learn as a BEGINNER

1. Air Brake

While in mid-air, tap the break for a spit-second to stop the cars rotation. This can give you a better landing and prevent slow downs.
2. Drifting
While turning and going above 180 speed, tap or hold break to start a drift. Drifting is very often faster than slowing down for a turn.

3. Reduce Airtime

Reducing air time means doing anything to stay on the road for longer, for example avoiding jumps or taking a lower jump line. The car only accelerates while on the ground so time spent in the air is lost most of the time.
4. Don't steer when you gear
This only applies to dirt, ice, and grass roads. Steering while the car shifts gears will drastically slow down your car. Gears shifts happen at speeds of 0, 100, 160, 235, and 341.

5. Bug Slide

A bug slide is a 90 degree drift that will gain you speed around sharp turns. Hold a drift while your car is 90 degrees then release to exit the bug slide.
